first outfit of the new year

Yesterday was the first day I'd gotten fully dressed in 2010, since New Year's Day was spent as it should be, in pajamas watching movies. Having fully recovered on Saturday, I was able to go out and continue the fun being appropriately indulgent with friends. Bloody marys, bourbon, comfort food, insane dessert... yes, this is how I want the entire year to go down. Or at least January, since it's bitterly cold and I'm about to turn 25.

Wearing a Zara silk shirt, BDG jeans, DV boots, my mother's old ring, and my new cutesy coat from Zara. I think it helps me channel this 1964 type frenchy vibe I've been going for.

never enough dresses

All I'm into wearing lately is a dress, tights, and booties. This little number from Zara is just about the best thing I've ever found in their stores. And yes, still wearing the RC boots. They're perfect and my other shoes wish they were as beautiful. I also picked up this little hair clip at H&M after seeing it on Elin. I've decided growing out the bangs requires cute little hair clips. Hm, what else? I changed the look of the blog a bit, change is good. La di da, I'm very tired this weekend and it feels a bit like my mind has atrophied. I blame the America's Next Top Model marathons on cable. They're always on and I get sucked in so easily. I think I'll get moving now and go buy things to make hot apple cider.

Sad Story

Let me tell you a sad story. I indulged and bought these insane sandals awhile back, admired them, fondled them, put them on my shoe rack, waited for warm months to come, and forgot about them. When I picked them up today they were covered in dust. I immediately dusted them off and strapped them to my feet. I still love you, crazy ass shoes.

Ripped jeans, I also love you. You make me feel like a Swede but I know my mother would disapprove of you.

Summer, is that you?

jacket - H&M, dress - Fighting Eel, boots - Zara, necklace - Maude Loves Harold Vintage on Etsy, sunglasses - Ray-Ban

I've said before how anti-liberty print I was feeling, but I guess it only pertained to the A.P.C. stuff because this little liberty print bomber from H&M called me towards it in the store. It was the only one left so of course I snatched it up. I like the idea of layering liberty print with stripes. It's subtle here, mixed with this old summer dress I've be wearing forever...currently a bit wrinkled as it was shoved in the back of the closet all winter. And I've been wearing this little trumpet necklace nonstop that I got from Siri who has a shop called Maude Loves Harold Vintage on Etsy.

It's currently 77 degrees outside. Seriously? I was actually a bit hot in my light jacket, but I am not ready to show much pasty white flesh yet. The bare legs were tough enough. Next step: paint toenails, prepare for sandals.

While basking in the sunshine, I went to the city and fondled beautiful 30's and 40's dresses at the Flea Market. The quality of vintage the vendors carry never ceases to amaze me. I spotted the most beautiful and delicate little cotton tea dress and teared up a bit when I saw it was being sold for $130. Maybe it will be there next time and I can bargain for it. I'm at least going to bring my camera along on the next trip, keeping photos of the items is the next best thing to buying them. Riiiiiight? Torture.

Time for an afternoon nap (catching up on a week's worth of sleep deprivation is always fun) and some cold beer in this warm breeze.

Statement shoes

Uh...uhmmm...I did something bad? Since there's a new Zara 3 blocks from work (as opposed to the absolutely grueling 7 blocks to the other location), I decided to stop by and hopefully catch a glimpse of some new SS/09 goods shown in the lookbook. The specific things I had my eye on weren't in the store yet, but the Louis Vuittion "inspired" tribal sandals I'd seen on tFS were. I passed by them and headed straight for the deeply discounted sale goods, but found my way back downstairs where they were still waiting for me. They told me NYFW was about to start a mere fifteen paces from the store and they wouldn't be around for me to admire much longer.

Okay, they're probably going back to the store, but can't I just enjoy them for a little while? They are without a doubt the closest I'll get to the real thing. Ooooh + ahhhh.

Speaking of the real thing...

Really not bad, right? Zara's stepping it up a notch this season.

And just like that...

...the weekend is gone.

Fashion Week is about to start here. I saw people working hard Friday night to put up the tents. It should be exciting and hectic as always. I have to admit it's a little hard to focus on F/W looks right now when all I can think about is Spring Spring oh wonderful Spring!

Off to milk the last moments of the weekend and indulge in some wine.

The grass is greener

photos via style.com

By now I think every warm blooded person is itching for Spring to come. It's quite possibly all I ever talk about. This winter has been brutal, I'm tired of layering, a button fell off of my coat. I'm just so over it!

When I was in H&M last week I was instantly drawn to a section filled with pastels. Everything was in the palette of a garden. Today I had another look at Chloé's SS/09 collection which also gives off a very fresh and innocent feeling. The earth tones, the scalloped edges, the little strategically placed bows. I can imagine myself adorned in Chloé, skipping through a meadow without a care in the world. Until the thermometer says it's time to dress the part, I will need to keep living vicariously through collections like this one.

And speaking of things to look forward to for Spring, check out Zara's SS/09 looks. It's Lara Stone again! Loving her more and more every day.

American Holiday

dress - Zara, bangles - OathNYC, boots - vintage

I really should be asleep. Black dresses have been a bit of a uniform, I wore them all weekend. Today was Super Bowl Sunday and we had a party. I really don't know anything about football but it's an excuse to get people together and cook/eat/drink.

Been listening to Bonnie Prince Billy all weekend.

Boot Campy

Leroy the kitty was helping out with photos this morning. It looks a bit like I ended up dressing for boot camp. These boots are pretty bad ass. I'd seen a couple bloggers wearing them as well as some discussion on tFS and decided to add them to my (already full) Asos shopping cart. Do not regret! Now I just need some perfect, flat ankle boots. Why are they so hard to find?

Apparently I have a 3-day weekend coming up. It's time to take the camera outside. So far I've been limited to my small apartment, and in the winter, the only time I'm home while it's light out is early morning. It's hard to believe or even remember I studied photography in college. I took for granted the free time and access to amazing equipment. I think in a certain way this blog is my small effort to make something. Perhaps everyone should blog to keep track of their thoughts and interests.
