I've been following Mother's Daughter since the summer and now it is hands down my favorite online vintage store. The styling and photography is enviable to say the least. The owner, Hayden Shiebler, most definitely has an eye for great pieces that never look too costumey. I've yet to place an order but really hope to do so sooner than later. Also, almost every piece is under $50. Pretty great.

to the market

This weekend turned out to be really lovely. Perfect weather and perfectly relaxed. I headed down to the Brooklyn Flea on Saturday since this was the first weekend of the season it was hosted outside. I'm going to have to return next weekend, it's a bit overwhelming! I'm really happy with what I came home with though.

A great little purse for summer, some vintage framed prints, and truly the best vintage cotton gingham dress I've ever laid eyes on. Perfection!

ahead of its time

I love combing through the vintage magazine archives on The Fashion Spot. They seem to be steadily growing, thanks to the people who take the time to scan their collections. Sometimes it just feels like magazines produced today are all just feeding us the same thing over and over. It's nice to escape to decades past and see how editorials used to be done. This one, shot by Richard Dormer in a 1964 British Harper's Bazaar, amazes me with how fresh and creative it feels, despite being done 45 years ago.

Flea Market Finds

I found this kind of precious, kind of perfect vintage bra at the Fort Greene Flea Market the other weekend. I fell in love with several vintage items while there, but with $10 in my wallet, my options were limited. I circled the booth where this bra was hanging several times, before haggling the vendor down to $8. I was quite pleased with myself.

So damn cute. It makes me feel like I should be hanging out with these ladies, sipping Mojitos and workin' on my tan.

Oh and...New York? Hi. Yeah. Can you please stop pouring ran so I can live out all of my beachy dreams while I'm still jobless?

Wish I were a French girl

La la la, oui oui oui. It's true, every outfit I've put on lately has something to do with the Nouvelle Vague. Maybe using Anna Karina in Pierrot Le Fou as my banner tipped you off towards my penchant for this style (and her & co). How many striped shirts does a girl need? I've stopped counting.

Also, apologies for being pretty absent on this blog lately. I don't know what to say, it's been gray & rainy. I've got some good stuff lined up for next week.

Feelin' Blue

...actually I'm not. I'm thrilled. (And I don't smile for photos.) It's my last day of work (freedom? free time!) and we finally have Spring outside, true Spring with perfect breeze and warm but not too warm sunshine. Tomorrow it will turn hot as hell, 88 degrees this weekend, wtf? Time to buy a new fan. Maybe I'll crawl up on my roof and lay in the sun.

70's Summer

I've been hunting for the perfect little pair of 70's wedge sandals for some time now. Of course I've had no success, as I tend to be rather unlucky when it comes to finding things right when I want them. Etsy is somewhat of a goldmine for decently priced vintage shoes, so why are none in my size?! Some one should buy the following pairs and look cute as hell this summer.

Playing Favorites

I wore all of my favorite things today. The Vena Cava top I'll never grow tired of, black jeans that are the perfect length, my little vintage YSL oh-so French shoes. It's Friday, I'm very tired, and dressing needed to be easy. Of course this plan has gone out the window now since I just agreed to a date and have no clue what to wear...currently sitting in my PJs. Damn.

Craving a change

Inspiration to do these outfit posts is a little lacking lately. I feel like I've worn everything I own nine hundred times. Winter clothes, I'm afraid you may soon be relegated to the back of the closet. I realize when I do this we'll get three feet of snow. That's just how it works.

How do people live in places where there are no seasons? Isn't it completely boring? I always get so excited at the prospect of change. A new haircut, some clothes not yet appropriate for the season...these things shuffle us in a forward direction.


And just to make it clear, I'm not completely uninspired. A peek at Built by Wendy's Spring '09 lookbook woke me right up.


Maybe I should move to a 75-degrees-every-single-day climate. I can't imagine lounging around barefoot ever starts feeling too mundane.

American Holiday

I really should be asleep. Black dresses have been a bit of a uniform, I wore them all weekend. Today was Super Bowl Sunday and we had a party. I really don't know anything about football but it's an excuse to get people together and cook/eat/drink.

Sniffle

My cold has kept me from accomplishing anything for days. I've not wanted to get dressed let alone get in front of a camera. It seems that everyone is a bit sick at the moment. Whiskey and soup have been keeping me company. Sorry I couldn't get my face completely turned around (a la Chucky) for this shot.

I'm actually a bit ashamed to admit I'm falling for the tie-dye trend, specifically with denim. I'm having a hard time imagining myself rocking it, but I know it's only a matter of time before I'm out shopping and wind up buying some crazy tie-dyed piece, much to the chagrin of my friends.

La La Land

This week has been one giant blur. I feel like I've lost my bearings a bit and crawled up into the recesses of my mind. I imagine it somewhat resembles the attic of a hoarder. Filled to the brim with treasures and junk. During the weekend I'd like to climb back down, spend some quality time with friends, and take a few deep breaths. Some people are best at full speed all the time but I find I can't go too fast or too slow for extended periods. I'm like a little kid who gets over-excited. (Typing this as I bounce my knee.)

And can you believe it? Just like that, January is nearly over.



By the way, I consider Friday through Sunday to be official It's Okay to Wear Leggings as Pants and Not Cover Your Butt days.

Crazy eye

Oh lawwwwd it is cold out! I look a little possessed in these photos due to the fact that there's a wind chill of seven degrees. Charming, no? Well soon enough my hands went numb and it was time to scurry back inside. Still, all in all, I've had the perfect relaxing Saturday. Sleeping in, a two hour bath, and not much else. I've recently found a place that will deliver sushi and another place that will deliver six packs of beer. I'm probably set for the rest of the winter now. I've got a date tonight, oh jeez, I think I'll wear this but with a much larger coat.

The temperature is dropping rapidly here but I'm going to pretend like it's not by continuing to forget my sweater and/or hat. What truly amazes me though is the bare-legged women on the street. They must be smiling through the tears and frostbite. Crazy ladies!

A couple random items of note today...one of my favorite boutiques is closing up shop, apparently they've lost their lease. If you're in New York within the next two months, be sure to check out Catbird as their entire stock is being discounted 50-75%. They've been a staple in my wardrobe for the last two or so years and I'm going to miss stopping in the shop on my weekend strolls to comb through their latest stock of girly dresses and tops.

Blue Monday

Oof. I've definitely got a case of the Mondays. I could not drag myself out of bed this morning, everything outside of the duvet and the cat curled up next to me felt freezing. I didn't really give myself enough time to take many photos, which seems appropriate enough for Monday. My goal for the rest of the week is to wake up and try to enjoy my mornings instead of the nervous rush that tends to happen. The other goal? Do laundry! I have not done it since November and there is a mountain of it in the corner of my room. How does that even happen? Sometimes it's the simple things that seem the most difficult to accomplish.

And I'm trying not to shop for a little while (ssshhh) but I can't stop thinking about this perfect, simple American Apparel dress and how well it would suit me. I have been making an effort to inject more color into my wardrobe, partly to lighten up the inevitable gloom experienced in January. However, I naturally gravitate to black and gray. WANT.

At least I can sleep in tomorrow.

Ohhhh my I am a tired lady. I'm actually amazed I managed to get out of bed, get dressed, take some photos, and hop on the train to work. An indulgent night of wine and oysters has repercussions the next day. (Still worth it!) Tonight should be a relaxing night at home with blankets and movies. AND! My huge Asos package arrived at work today and I can't wait to try everything on.
