Stella McCartney's lingerie fits better than any other label I've tried, and personally I am happy to shell out a deal more for something that looks so beautiful and doesn't serve as a torture device for stacked ladies. This summer was possibly the first time I've ever taken a vacation that wasn't family holiday/reunion related. We took a little trip up to New Hampshire to get down with some nature. I hiked my first mountain (not without tears), dipped in a lake, experienced some unsuccessful fishing in a canoe, picked lavender, and seldom used my iPhone except for picture taking.

Now I just have to figure out how I can quit my day job and go move to the country to devote waking hours to gardening, scavenging, cooking, and blogging. Ongoing goals... use the blog and start more projects instead of just thinking about them.

It was peak cherry blossom season at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens this past weekend. I spent quite a bit of time under the trees, in la la land. The weather was perfect and I got the year's first little sunburn on my shoulders. After the gardens, we headed into Prospect Park so I could take my shoes off and squish my toes in the grass. I think finally after eight years, city living is getting to me. My little fire escape garden and bodega bouquets will have to suffice for now. And every day is one day closer to the weekend.

I have to write this post now to prevent myself from falling back into a streak of indifference and laziness. Lately I've been thinking a lot about Francesca Woodman. I received a book of her photos as a gift a few Christmases back. Her work really reminds me of how I felt about photography and creativity in general as a young woman. I am still pretty young, but slowly inching towards thirty and working a day job for the last three years has left me feeling pretty dull. I started this blog two years back to give myself an outlet of sorts, but have continually found myself confused in the point of it all. I'd like to delete everything here and start from scratch but I won't. I am going to try to have a little more fun with this space, to let it come more easily. I have a hard time focusing. I'll probably always be all over the place but if possible, I'd like to be more consistent in how random I am?

For now, I'll leave this post with a few little photos from Christmas travels and the aftermath of epic blizzard I returned home to.

I love these sequin shells from Topshop's collection of party wear. I think they'd look perfect with a black flouncy skirt. All of the sequins and sparkles really make me wish I had a few more holiday shindigs to attend. But Christmas, New Years and Birthday are all three very valid times to do the heavily embellished thing.

Topshop has really been making all of my 60s dreams come true lately. There's something so rewarding about hunting down the vintage pieces but Topshop comes pretty close. I still think the lot of the store is overpriced (it's all polyester which I don't believe should ever cost over $100) but they sure have found my sweet spot. Now I'm regretting giving away a vintage shift dress I found on eBay in high school that was red velvet with a cream silk beaded peter pan collar. Why would I ever part with something like that?

I couldn't resist the Iconic Pansy Dress from Kate Moss' last ever Topshop collection. I missed it the first time around and it's just obviously one of those easy, perfectly cut frocks that you can wear over and over.

A few other favorite new pieces I'd love to get my hands on if cost were no issue...

That cream colored bell sleeve one reminds me so much of I Love You, Alice B. Toklas. There's actually several pieces in Kate's collection that are reminiscent of the movie and I think she must be a fan as well.

I think my life would considerably improve just by wearing these "Knock Your Socks Off Heels" from Modcloth. They remind me of elementary school art projects where some Elmer's glue and rainbow glitter could go a long way. I need a coat like yesterday. Seriously. I've been thrust into this lovely brisk fall bare-armed and perplexed as to how I don't have a single practical garmet in my closet that will do the job of keeping me warm but not too warm. I can't seem to find anything I like except this Steven Alan coat. So I will need to make it mine, one way or another. I'm a firm believer in splurging on the things you wear every day, though. Coats, a good pair of boots, a solid bag. You can't really get around without them.

I've been following Mother's Daughter since the summer and now it is hands down my favorite online vintage store. The styling and photography is enviable to say the least. The owner, Hayden Shiebler, most definitely has an eye for great pieces that never look too costumey. I've yet to place an order but really hope to do so sooner than later. Also, almost every piece is under $50. Pretty great.

Everyone's going crazy over these shoes and rightly so. For Suno's S/S 11 collection, they paired with Loeffler Randall to make some serious printed platforms and flats. I think Madewell has become the go-to store for my summer wardrobe. Everything is comfortable, a bit loose, and easy to throw on. Their sale section has several things that are still full price online which is pretty amazing . I had to stop myself the other day from buying every single item I tried on. Though I still brought home the top and shorts in this photo, as well as a tank and pair of jeans. For my next visit, got my eye on the Panama hat, Mara Hoffman bikinis, and trouser jeans. This weekend turned out to be really lovely. Perfect weather and perfectly relaxed. I headed down to the Brooklyn Flea on Saturday since this was the first weekend of the season it was hosted outside. I'm going to have to return next weekend, it's a bit overwhelming! I'm really happy with what I came home with though.

A great little purse for summer, some vintage framed prints, and truly the best vintage cotton gingham dress I've ever laid eyes on. Perfection!

I found a pair of Rachel Comey Halla clogs on sale this weekend and I'm pretty smitten with them. They make me close to six feet tall. Another recent acquisition is this huge and amazing necklace made by the Vamoose. If you're not already familiar with her Etsy shop, definitely check it out.

We've reached the time of the season where winter clothes generally feel like boring, old news. Spring lines have it the stores, wishlists are racking up in my head, driving me crazy. (I need this jacket!) Absolutely jealous of the Southern Hemisphere at the moment.

So it's Groundhog's Day, the day when everyone lets out a collective groan at the prediction of 6 more weeks of winter. I know I said I didn't mind the cold, but some sun and fresh air is sounding mighty good at the moment. I'm nursing a nasty cold, high as a kite on Dayquil, and can't breathe. Okay spring, c'mon. Help me out.

It's the little things though. Like just finding a pair of MiH Marrakesh jeans on Yoox for 9 bucks. Nine! Amazing. There's still a pair left in 28 if anyone is interested. All of my jeans are of the super skinny variety and after my last post, I was yearning for a pair of 60's/70's inspired bellbottoms. MiH's seem perfect.

After ordering, I found their Spring 2010 lookbook. Girls with long, messy hair looking quite relaxed on soft patches of grass in the warm sun. I'm sold. Take me there.

Pretty certain this is my favorite of the Pre-Fall collections. There's been some seriously enviable pieces, but it's the first look of Pilati's Pre-Fall 2010 that inspires me to throw my hands in the air, scrap everything that's come thus far in life, and become a freewheeling gypsy. Or at the very least, find myself a big floppy felt hat. (The rest will just fall into place after I acquire the hat.) Seeing the YSL of the 70's peek out of this collection is so exciting, I absolutely cannot wait to see what F/W 2010 brings.

Everyone seems so excited for a far, far away spring, but I'm really more of a cold weather person so I'll hang on to my tights and coats a bit longer. And my boot collection? It stays. Especially the ankle boots, they're following me into the next season.

Nonetheless, A.P.C. dropped me a postcard in the mail hinting at their new spring collection, so I had to go track it down. Here are most of the pieces, I left out only a few. You can see everything here.

Pretty good, no? I especially love how black and metallics are done in a lighter way and not just reserved for winter. And that little blue tank dress looks like something that would get worn multiple days in a week. I didn't manage to buy any of the F/W '09 collection (not that it's too late!) but I'm pretty sure 2 or 3 of those dresses up there may have to come home with me sooner than later.

On an unrelated but far more serious note, please help the people of Haiti by donating to the relief effort.

A year ago today I started this little blog, and yesterday I celebrated my 25th birthday. Time for a toast! One of many goals I have for this new year, decade, and age, is to put more into my blog. I'm still amazed though by the people I've met either in person or online, living in New York or on another continent, solely through blogging. I am so flattered by my readers, you guys are the best. first outfit of the new year

Yesterday was the first day I'd gotten fully dressed in 2010, since New Year's Day was spent as it should be, in pajamas watching movies. Having fully recovered on Saturday, I was able to go out and continue the fun being appropriately indulgent with friends. Bloody marys, bourbon, comfort food, insane dessert... yes, this is how I want the entire year to go down. Or at least January, since it's bitterly cold and I'm about to turn 25.

Wearing a Zara silk shirt, BDG jeans, DV boots, my mother's old ring, and my new cutesy coat from Zara. I think it helps me channel this 1964 type frenchy vibe I've been going for.

After much debate, I got my hair cut. I'd scheduled an appointment for today and was considering canceling it yesterday evening, then miss Vamoose posted a photo of Marianne Faithfull and her perfectly messy yet bluntly cut early 60's 'do. Such perfect hair.

Mine still has a few old layers that need to grow out, but I'm pretty happy with what my new stylist managed to do with my mess of a mane. It looks all nice and neat from the professional blow out but that will end the moment I rest my head on the pillow.

If you're ever in Brooklyn and need a stylist, Aki at Commune is the girl to go to. After over-paying at my last place for haircuts I never felt right about, I'm relieved to have found her.

(Oh and I do not have ombre hair. That is the light from the screen. Ombre hair is one of the absolute most ridiculous trends to emerge this year. I had ombre hair for quite some time due to an unfortunate dye job, why anyone would want such a thing on purpose is beyond me. Do I sound like your mother?)

Merry Christmas Eve! I am currently trying to soothe my anxieties of traveling into a massive blizzard by admiring the newly released Sonia Rykiel pour H&M Spring 2010 lookbook. As excited as I was for the lingerie line, I ended up getting nothing as I wasn't too pleased with the fit of most pieces. I've got higher hopes for the Spring line though. I mean... just look at it! It's based off of her actual line, not Sonia by Sonia, yesyesyes.

I'm definitely excited about the rainbow striped pieces, and the adorable bow sweaters. The yellow dress and b&w striped slouchy sweater are singing my name as well. I have no idea how many striped tops I already own but really, I've said it before, you can never have too many. There is no better wardrobe staple. Wouldn't mind if those wedges were also for sale.

I think I want bangs again. I've finally grown them out enough to where I almost don't need a bobby pin, and now I've got the itch to chop them off. Likely story. But with a new year and a new age, I'm feeling the need for a bit of a freshened up appearance. Right now my locks are pretty blah... they haven't been cut since February (!) as I've been trying with all of my might to grow them long. Chop chop chop! I may do the deed myself since I've never found a hair stylist I can trust. I'm open to suggestions though for anyone good in NYC.

Love this girl on Stylelikeu. Loud, hilarious, and sharp as a tack.

She bases her style on playing different archetypes, which is one of the main reasons I love fashion. You can play so many roles, and constantly switch them up. I've never really felt like I needed to settle into one particular style. There are just too many options.

elusive spots

The leopard trend... it comes and goes, doesn't it? I really wanted to partake, hunting for the perfect spotted coat. I thought I found one, had it shipped across the pond, but nope. It doesn't fit! Now the temperatures are supposed to drop this week and I'm left with a flimsy jacket to face the elements. I was really feeling defeated and left empty-handed after my endless searching.

Then I stumbled across these shots of Naomi, originally from the December 1991 issue of Vogue italia. So nineties, yet still so amazing! Therefore, I've concluded that leopard is timeless and I'll find my coat. There may be a candidate or two at Topshop. Or I could settle for a spotted scarf and maybe some gloves to tide myself over. And maybe some bedding! Maxi dress? Wallpaper?!

Well, I did it. I bought myself the Chloé wedges as an early Christmas/birthday present. Luckily Saks decided to put them on sale, my patience paid off. And they are everything I dreamed of. I'm glad I went with the wedges too, I think they'll get a ton of wear. I also like that they'll encourage me to wear something other than black black black.

And I was feeling so festive today that I went and bought a little Christmas tree, some trimmings, and whiskey + egg nog. Mmmm. I lot of people hate egg nog but I think it's pretty tasty with a bit of Jameson poured in it. Even better while sitting next to my lovely little tree.

My wishlists are overflowing. I know, they say to "shop your closet" but I've sold mine to Beacon's. Only a few favorites remain. This Built by Wendy dress has been a staple for the last two years. The necklace is a newer addition though. I had it custom made on Etsy, using a bullet casing from the gun salute at my grandpa's funeral. I'd been meaning to do something with it for so long and am glad it turned out the way it did.

But yes, I'm plotting my winter wardrobe purchases. Simple silk dresses, cardigans that don't make me look like a school marm, infinite legwear, one of the vintage leopard coats on my long eBay watch list, Chloé bootiessss...gonna get in trouble when that paycheck finally arrives.

I love Daul Kim and judging by what's surfaced so far, it looks like her presence (as cover girl!) in the November/December Russh is going to make for a pretty unbelievable issue. There's something about this editorial that gives me chills. I guess I'm all Lula'd out for now because it feels wonderful to find an editorial that is gorgeous without being too... pretty.

Since discovering that American Apparel is soon coming out with a velvet dress and leggings (top left and top center), I've become entranced by all things velvet. You can only really wear it in the winter and it's easy to end up looking a bit like Holiday Barbie, but there is something eternally luxe about it that I find hard to resist.

I love combing through the vintage magazine archives on The Fashion Spot. They seem to be steadily growing, thanks to the people who take the time to scan their collections. Sometimes it just feels like magazines produced today are all just feeding us the same thing over and over. It's nice to escape to decades past and see how editorials used to be done. This one, shot by Richard Dormer in a 1964 British Harper's Bazaar, amazes me with how fresh and creative it feels, despite being done 45 years ago.

All I'm into wearing lately is a dress, tights, and booties. This little number from Zara is just about the best thing I've ever found in their stores. And yes, still wearing the RC boots. They're perfect and my other shoes wish they were as beautiful. I also picked up this little hair clip at H&M after seeing it on Elin. I've decided growing out the bangs requires cute little hair clips. Hm, what else? I changed the look of the blog a bit, change is good. La di da, I'm very tired this weekend and it feels a bit like my mind has atrophied. I blame the America's Next Top Model marathons on cable. They're always on and I get sucked in so easily. I think I'll get moving now and go buy things to make hot apple cider.

After spotting some of the Lyell Fall 09 shots over on Rhiannon's blog, I had to take a closer look. How does every little piece manage to be so perfect? Delicate silk dresses, high-waisted shorts with tights, artfully tailored wool coats...

I've been tempted by vintage silver shoes in the past and now they are definitely back at the top of my shoe wishlist. And even though most of the above lies out of my price range, I still plan on acquiring a few things from the Urban Outfitters collab, which actually looks gorgeous in person. It even appears that a couple new pieces have been added, and the price reduced on some others. Oooh la la.

I tried with all of my might to resist posting these photos. Confession: I am a cat lady. I have two. They cover all of my life in fur and warm my toes at night. When these cats wearing United Bamboo landed in my inbox today, all of the stress and grief of every day life melted away. Look at me making a better effort to do outfit posts! I've got new things to show off which is the best excuse to do one of these posts. The lovely Alison Lewis gave me this Lewis dress, from her FW09 collection. I love the neckline and collar, just cut beautifully. And speaking of beautiful, my boot collection just got a new addition in the form of these Rachel Comey boots. It was far too tempting with them being sold in my neighborhood. I swear, steer clear of strolling around the Bedford Ave. area because it is dangerous. So many temptations. I told myself that I could have them since my old favorite boots broke. Totally worth eating ramen for awhile. Ahh, my logic.

Chanel SS10

Chanelgasm! Thank you Karl, for fulfilling some strange fantasy I didn't know I had until I saw your clothes and set design.

Paris has been a bit of a disappointment, really. With the oh-so-fine exceptions of Chanel, Celine, and YSL. I'd expect nothing less from Lagerfeld (his own collection wasn't too shabby either), Philo, and Pilati. These people know how to dress women!

The Wren Spring 2010 lookbook is filled with way too many cute and covetable pieces for me to handle. My Spring wishlist should not be as long as it already is. Fall just started. A round up of the shows from London and Milan is a bit over do. London goes by so quickly and suddenly we're well into Milan. It certainly is a lot to look at. So far, my favorites have been the girly, ultra feminine collections that manage to avoid veering into looking childish. I imagine the girl in these clothes to be soft and demure, albeit whip-smart and capable of kicking you where it counts if you give her any trouble.
